PGR: Promoting Gender Respect

PGR is a special program operated by Mariposa County Project Respect that focuses on creating gender respect in social and dating relationships among teenagers. "Gender Respect" is a term that refers to the idea that all people deserve to be treated with social and physical respect regardless of gender and that they should be able to go about their lives without encountering bullying, harassment or abuse based on perceptions or stereotypes of tradtional gender roles.

Participants join PGR by invitation during their 8th grade school-year and begin by attending a 9-week series of group meetings with their peers.

After graduation from 8th grade, PGR "alumni" occassionally meet with program facilitators for follow-up and downgrade mentoring opportunities.
