Being a kid can be really tough sometimes! Some days everything seems to go your way, but other days everything seems unfair! Here are some tips to help you on those days that seem unfair!

What do you do when you feel really, really angry?  You know those times when your face feels hot and your stomach gets tingly?  Instead of hitting someone or saying something mean try to calm yourself down by:

  1. Checking in with yourself. Put your hand on your tummy and try to understand what you are feeling.
  2. Saying “Calm Down” to yourself.
  3. Take a few deep breaths.
  4. Count out loud.

By doing these things, you give yourself time to understand what you are feeling.  It may also keep you from doing something that you will feel bad about later.

How about those times when your brother or sister won’t share a game or a toy with you?  Or those times when you and your friend can’t decide what to play together?

Try these steps to solve your problems by asking yourself:

  1. How do I feel?
  2. What is the problem?
  3. What can I do?

Once you have thought about the answers to these questions, think about how the other person might be feeling.  Together, come up with some possible solutions to solve your problem.  Then, try each solution to see what will work.  Remember to be fair!

Here are some fair ways to play.

  1. Try sharing.
  2. Try trading.
  3. Try taking turns.

If you feel like you have tried everything you can and you still have a problem, ask your parents or your teacher for advice.  They just may have the solution you are looking for!
